The Problem
Every year, one-third of all food produced globally is wasted — 1.3 billion tonnes thrown into landfills while 828 million people go hungry. In the UK alone, the average household throws away £700 of perfectly good food each year.
Food waste isn't just a financial problem. When food decomposes in landfill, it produces methane — a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than CO² over 20 years. If food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world, behind only the US and China.
The hardest part? Most of this waste happens at home. Not in farms. Not in supermarkets. In our fridges, our cupboards, our kitchens. We buy food with good intentions, life gets busy, and by the time we remember, it's too late.
"The best time to save a piece of food from the bin is the day before it expires. The second best time is right now."
Our Story
Freshli started with a simple frustration: opening the fridge on a Tuesday evening, seeing a bag of spinach you forgot about, and realising it's already past its best. That moment — repeated millions of times a day, in millions of kitchens — is where food waste begins.
We asked: what if your phone could warn you before that moment? What if it could suggest a recipe that uses the spinach, the half-pepper, and the eggs that are all expiring this week? What if it could do all of this without sending your grocery data to a server?
That's Freshli. An app built for iOS 26 that uses Apple's Foundation Models framework to turn the contents of your fridge into meals, not waste — entirely on-device, with zero network calls. Private by design. Instant by nature. Useful by default.
Our Mission
To make food waste prevention feel effortless, rewarding, and communal — so that rescuing food becomes a habit as natural as recycling.
We believe the solution to food waste isn't guilt. It's not another documentary about landfills. It's making the right thing the easy thing. When your phone tells you what's about to go off, suggests a 15-minute recipe, and shows you that 347 other people just rescued food too — suddenly, saving that spinach feels like joining a movement, not doing a chore.
Our Values
Privacy First
Your pantry data is processed on your device. Our AI runs entirely on-device using Apple Intelligence. No servers see your groceries.
Planet Over Profit
Every feature we build is measured by one metric: does it prevent more food from reaching landfill? If it doesn't, we don't ship it.
Community Over Competition
Surplus food should go to a neighbour, not a bin. We build tools that connect people, not isolate them.
Accessible to Everyone
ARKit gaze tracking for hands-free browsing, voice-guided cooking, full VoiceOver support, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion, 10 languages. Food waste is everyone's problem — the solution should be too.
